Do you have a great Bio?
A great bio is a necessary item in your marketing package, especially if you're the new kid on the block in terms of the solopreneur.
Before your reputation is good enough to precede you, you will hear "send me your bio" a good many times.
The big question is "what is a bio?" or better still "what is a great bio?"
Well, a bio is really a story-based version of the information you would typically include in your resume. And no...a great bio, however good, cannot replace a resume.
But the way it is written is not as formal as a resume and this gives you an opportunity to highlight some interesting facts about yourself.
You can also inject a little of your personality and if you have storytelling skills you can do this tastefully.
The main goals of a bio are to give the reader an accurate sense of who you are and what you do.
It also establishes your expertise and credibility, and qualifies your experience and background.
When you can combine all of these elements effectively, and tell your story well, you develop trust in you and your brand.
The question I am most often asked is: "Lorna, if I have a resume which I keep up to date, do I still need a bio?"
The short answer is YES.
Even if you maintain a current resume, there are many situations when you will need a bio. You need a bio to:
- Post on your website and blog
